Why Two Years of Kindergarten Could Give Your Child the Best Start to School

The early years of education shape how children learn, think, and see themselves as capable learners. That’s why more families are now embracing two years of kindergarten or preschool, giving children more time to develop the social, emotional, and cognitive skills they need for a confident start to school.

At Kids Academy, we believe that quality early learning experiences during these years make a lifelong difference. Recent studies show that two years of structured, play-based learning provide measurable benefits for children’s academic and personal development, outcomes that continue well into primary school and beyond.

The Research: Why Two Years Matter

During the first five years of life, children’s brains form over one million neural connections every second. By age five, around 90% of brain development is already complete (source: education.vic.gov.au).

Research from the Mitchell Institute at Victoria University found that children who participate in two years of high-quality preschool or kindergarten demonstrate stronger results in language, numeracy, and emotional regulation than those who attend for only one year (source: vu.edu.au).

Internationally, countries such as New Zealand, the UK, and much of Europe recommend at least two years, and around 20 hours per week, of early learning before formal schooling begins.

Kids Academy’s Two-Year School Readiness Program

Our Lifelong Learning Curriculum is built on the science of early brain development, offering a research-based, two year School Readiness Program for children aged three to five.

Led by a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher, our kindergarten classrooms combine structure with discovery, helping children become confident, independent learners.

Every day, children engage in rich, project-based experiences designed to spark curiosity and build key school-readiness skills through:

Children also enjoy fresh, healthy meals prepared onsite, as well as music, sport, and yoga incursions, creating a balanced daily routine that supports both wellbeing and learning.

The 3-Day Guarantee: Making Quality Early Learning Accessible

From January 2026, the Australian Government’s new Child Care Subsidy (CCS) 3 Day Guarantee will make accessing high-quality early learning easier for families.

The initiative guarantees that eligible families can receive CCS for at least three days of care per week (72 hours per fortnight), regardless of work or activity hours (source: servicesaustralia.gov.au).

This means your child can enjoy the benefits of consistent early learning routines, stronger relationships with teachers and peers, and more opportunities for growth and discovery, while families receive reliable financial support.
