Transitioning to a New Room
A Positive and Supported Step Forward
Moving up to a new room is an exciting milestone in your child’s early learning journey. At Kids Academy, we understand that change - even positive change - takes time. Our approach to transitions is gentle, gradual and always guided by your child’s individual readiness, so every step forward feels confident and supported.
How We Know Your Child is Ready
Every child develops at their own pace, and our educators carefully assess readiness based on:
- Social and emotional development
- Communication skills
- Independence and self-help abilities
- Engagement with learning experiences
- Physical development and confidence in movement
We observe children every day and work closely with families to ensure the timing of any transition is right for your child.
How We Support the Transition
- We talk with you first - Your child’s educator will discuss their progress and readiness with you, answer any questions, and share what to expect. You’ll receive a transition timeline so there are no surprises.
- We take it gradually - Your child will begin with short visits to the new room, meeting new educators and peers at a comfortable pace. Time in the new room increases gradually until they feel fully settled.
- We keep you updated - Regular check-ins throughout the process mean you’re always informed and involved.
How You Can Help at Home
- Talk positively about the new room and the exciting experiences ahead
- Encourage independence - practising dressing themselves, making choices, managing belongings
- Read books about change and new beginnings to help your child feel prepared
Every Transition is a Celebration
At Kids Academy, moving to a new room is something we celebrate together. It’s a sign of how much your child has grown, and a sign of the wonderful learning experiences still ahead. Our educators will always be by your child’s side to make sure the journey is as smooth and positive as possible.
