Settling Into Childcare

Supporting a Smooth and Gentle Start

Starting childcare is a big step, for your child and for you. Whether it’s their first time away from home, or a brand new environment, it’s completely normal for both children and parents to feel a mix of emotions during this transition.

At Kids Academy, we’re here to support every family through this journey, with patience, warmth and plenty of reassurance along the way.

Every Child Settles in Their Own Time

Some children take to their new environment quickly. Others need a little longer, and that’s completely okay. Our educators take the time to get to know each child individually, building trust and helping them feel safe and comfortable at their own pace.

If your child (or you) experience any anxiety or distress, please reach out to your Centre Manager or your child’s educator. We’re always here to help.

Tips to Help Your Child Feel at Home

  • Attend a Stay and Play session - Before your child’s official start date, you’re welcome to join a free Stay and Play session. It’s a chance to explore the room, meet educators and help your child begin to feel familiar with their new environment.
  • Stay for a little while at first - On the first few days, you’re welcome to stay and play with your child before you leave. Helping them engage in an activity before goodbye can make the transition easier.
  • Bring something familiar - A favourite toy, blanket, dummy or family photo can help your child feel safe and grounded throughout the day.
  • Always say goodbye - It can be tempting to slip away quietly, but saying a proper goodbye builds trust and helps your child understand that you’ll always come back.
  • Keep your drop-off routine consistent - A predictable routine - a special hug, a wave from the window, a little song - gives children a sense of security and helps them settle faster.
  • Connect with your child’s educator - Children feel more at ease when they see their parents connecting warmly with educators. A brief, positive handover each morning builds confidence for everyone.
  • Call us anytime - You’re always welcome to phone the centre to check in. We’re happy to share how your child is going and pass on any reassuring moments from their day.

The Beginning of Something Wonderful
